Scouting tomorrow’s talent with today’s vision

Como’s Secret Weapon: The Rise of Nico Paz

Beneath the shimmering waters of Lake Como lies more than just breathtaking nature, there’s a football talent making serious waves. Right in the heart of this iconic Italian lake region, 20 year old Argentine Nico Paz has emerged as one of the season’s biggest hidden gems. Hailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he has caught plenty of eyes with his dynamic performances, giving Como a real spark.

I’ve followed many of his games and one thing is clear. He is the engine in midfield. With 36 appearances, 6 goals, and 8 assists, he’s proving he’s more than just a creative player. He’s completed 135 dribbles, 69 of them successful, and leads the team in shot and chance creation. As a left footer, he brings a unique edge whether playing on the left or through the middle.

His connection with teammate Assane Diao is another key factor. Paz feeds him many decisive passes that have made Como a real threat this season.

His biggest strengths? Ball control and game intelligence at a high level. He spots spaces and situations before they develop, finds gaps in the defense, and delivers precise passes to teammates. His agility and willingness to take responsibility in tight moments complete his profile. His dribbling opens up opportunities not only for himself but for the entire team.

Paz’s style fits perfectly with Spanish football. Creativity and passing accuracy are his trademarks, while his flexibility allows him to adapt to different systems. If he returns to Real Madrid in the future, he has exactly the qualities they look for.

His career started early. At six years old, he played for Atlético San Juan and CD Tenerife before making the jump to Real Madrid’s youth academy in 2016. In 2022, he debuted for Real Madrid Castilla and in 2023 played his first Champions League game with the senior squad.

In August 2024, he moved to Como where he quickly became a key player under coach Cesc Fàbregas. Having a former world class player like Fabregas guiding him is helping Paz unlock his full potential.

Internationally, he is already making waves. In October 2024, he debuted for Argentina and immediately assisted a goal for Lionel Messi, a statement in itself.

I expect Nico to stay at Como for at least one more season under Fabregas. Many thought he would move this summer, but with Real Madrid holding a buy back option, he has the time to develop without pressure.

If he keeps performing like this, all doors will open for him. A big transfer is just a matter of time. For now, he benefits from excellent coaching and valuable game experience at Como.

And don’t worry, this is just the beginning. A feature on his perfect partner Assane Diao is coming soon. Stay tuned, it’s going to be exciting.
